It's Been One of Those Days

Not been the best day on record – lots of stuff gone wrong – but the biggie was our refrigerator died.  So, all that was planned for the day went out the window and we spent the greater part of the day messing with the replacement of the fridge!

Then, I spent some time hemming some pants only to find out I didn’t measure right and they are still too long.

My “to do” list is still as long as it was when this day got started and I have only 2 days left to get things done.  I am so overwhelmed with it all that I’m just gonna sit down and update my blog!

Let’s see…left off with the beginning of fall.  We had ward boundary changes and we are now members of the Galveston 3rd Ward.  We got right into ward activities and came up with a win in the Trunk-or-Treat celebration!  Dave was really the mastermind of the trunk.  He even hung his tablet up and had Halloween cartoons playing for the kids!  He’s already planning next year’s trunk!

We got to go see Kailee in her high school dance recital.  She’s very good!  My only complaint is that she should have been in more of the dances – like all of them!

As part of a ward assignment, we helped put up some of the Christmas lights at the temple!  It was a great experience.  If you go to see the lights, pay particular attention to the ones on the far east side of the reflecting pool – I think they shine extra bright! ; )

Dave and Terry did not get drawn for elk or deer this year.  So, they got their hands on some late draw permits for coues deer in the Chiricahua’s – way down south in AZ.  Like close enough to the border that when we got a flat tire, we went to Douglas to get it fixed spitting distance from the border entry!  This is an area that is so rugged it caused Dave and Terry to utter words along the lines of “maybe we should take up fishing full time.”

The area is a lot of straight up and down on the mountain.  Now, if you were part billy goat it wouldn’t pose a problem.  But when you are mere man, you take your life in your hands.  At one point, Dave was coming down and apparently stepped on a rock that could have doubled as a bowling ball – it went out from under him, he went up in the air and landed on his hip on a rock.  Luckily, Terry grabbed the gun.  Not much he could do about catching Dave!  The end result was a horrible bruise on his hip.  The picture looks better than the actual leg!

The first night it was pretty chilly.  We were toughing it out and not turning the heater on too high – wanted the experience of camping, you know!  Indee got cold, so while the tire was getting fixed, Cathi got Indee some jammies!

The hunt didn’t produce anything we could bring home.  They did see one decent buck – well, as decent as they can be.  These things are small!  Here’s a doe I “shot.”

The last day they hunted, Dave said he saw a small buck he didn’t shoot – too small he said.  Besides that, he said his momma was watching.  Thought that was mighty nice of him to take that into consideration!

One of the nights they stayed out late, Dave called on his way back and told me to go out and look at the moon.  It was like the sun was coming up!  It was big and it was yellow-orange – literally like the sun against a black backdrop!  This picture does not capture the color correctly, but it was a great moon!

And…the biggest thing to happen this fall is…Kennadi Ann was born!!  She was 7 pounds, 14 ounces and 20 inches long!  Kenna was supposed to come December 6th, but she decided to come on December 5th – and quickly.  Wendy called before 8 pm to say she was headed to the hospital and Kenna came at 10:13 pm!  So fast that natural childbirth was the order of the day – no matter what Wendy wanted!  The end result, though, is a beautiful little girl who looks a lot like her sister, Kendal, when she was born.

And that gets us pretty much up to speed.  Christmas is right around the corner – have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
