I loved this month – there was so much fun and so much grandkid
time!
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – nothing melts
my heart more than seeing the grandkids having fun with their Papa. Cameron is a sweetie-pie and we get along
great, but his clear favorite is Papa!
If I come out to his house without Dave, the first thing he always says
is “where’s Papa?”
As we were watching Kendal, Kenna and Kaytie one Saturday,
Kenna was getting a little one-on-one time with Papa (another one who thinks
Papa is the best!) while I was tending to Kaytie. Now, normally Kaytie isn’t too much of a
Papa’s girl. Given the choice between me
and Papa, she had always picked me first.
Well…that is changing I guess.
After I was done changing her, she immediately crawled over to Papa and
pulled up on his leg. She wanted up on
his lap with Kenna! That’s ok – give me
another heart-melting moment to cherish!
This is Kendal trying not to smile while I take a picture.
Dave got his “cook” on and tried a couple of different
dishes. This one was just pretty, so I
took a picture of it – cod with a sesame teriyaki glaze with vegetables.
The other dish is getting documented because he is using
something he claims to detest…zucchini!!
It was a pork stir-fry dish and he actually used the ingredients called
for! And not only that, he ate it, liked
it and says he’ll make it again!!
It was a great treat to watch Raelyn a little bit this
month, too!! She is such a little beauty and she is soooo loved by her brothers!!
Mother’s Day weekend was so nice! Dave took me out to Black Angus for dinner on
Saturday night, gave me a card with chocolate on Sunday morning as well as
making me breakfast that included blackberry cream cheese crepes and from the
kids I got flowers, chocolate covered strawberries, a lovely smelling candle,
and a beautiful heart made from the footprints of Hunter, Cameron and
Raelynn! I am definitely feeling a
little spoiled!!
Bremen had his last band concert before heading
off to Junior High next year! (Boy, that
sounds weird saying Bremen and Junior High in the same sentence!) He had a solo in the concert and he did
fabulous!! The song he picked was a much
higher level of difficulty than the other solos. Not bragging, just a fact!
A couple days later we had Kendal’s preschool
graduation. Talk about cute!! And let's not talk about her going to kindergarten next year....that just can't be!
Look who was excited to see her sister!!
Look who was excited to get into Mommy’s bag!
The next day Kevin came into town to go to Bremen’s Fathers
and Sons outing. Papa was going to go,
too. It would have been fun for them…but
it got cancelled due to rain of all things…in May….in Arizona!! They made the best of the day and a half they
had. Lucky for me it included teaching
Bremen how to make a cherry pie – one of my all-time favorites!! We were all so darn excited to cut into that
pie that we forgot to take a picture of the pretty creation until we had some
in our mouth!
Speaking of pretty creations….lovely Caitlin was honored at
a school ceremony for outstanding academic achievement in science! Only one person in each grade received the
award – she was the sophomore recipient!
As they were reading her award, they also mentioned her positive
influence on her peers and her calming presence in the classroom. Yeah, I think I’m just as excited about that
nod to her character as I am the science award!
Her brother, Ryan, got some sweet awards at the end of the
school year, too! He made the
Principal’s List with straight A’s and he was recognized for displaying
trustworthiness and having an overall stellar character. Love, love, love that…and him!!
On another subject, Dave has a new possession. It has become a good friend…I think he likes
it a lot! Terry made him a cane! It was quite timely, too. Dave had just twisted his knee the day
before!
The grand finale of end of school year festivities - we went to Hunter’s
Kindergarten Graduation!! He was
awesome! That kid is such a
personality! I wish I would have videoed
him walking over to shake his teacher’s hand – he walked with such purpose and
had the biggest smile on his face!! Sure
do love that boy!
Kendal came over for a craft day – she is awesome with
crafts! Give that girl paper, stickers,
scissors, glue, etc. and she’ll be in heaven for hours!!
Dave had a fishing trip out of San Diego planned for quite
some time. Just so happened the day he
was leaving on his trip was the day Kevin and his family were to arrive. They passed each other somewhere on the
I-10!! As it turned out, all Dave, Terry
and Ernesto did was take a long boat ride.
They were skunked. And I blame
Mexico for that! The day before they
were to be heading toward Mexican waters to fish for yellow tail tuna, the
Mexican government decided that all fishermen must now have a passport. Used to be you fished with visas supplied by
the fishing company you worked with – not now.
Effective immediately a passport in hand is required. Well, Dave and Terry do not possess one and
it was too late to do anything about it.
So they went ahead and the boat captain took them out beyond
international waters (12 miles out from land) and hoped to catch some blue fin
tuna. Nope. Didn’t happen. I was all set for some fresh, grilled yellow
tail and ended up with frozen cod from the store!
Meanwhile, back at home I was having fun with these
people!!!
Thankfully, it wasn’t so blazing hot yet that we couldn’t
enjoy a little time at the park!
And the big reason for Kevin, Alena, Sofia and Lilly to come to Arizona? Bremen turned 12 and he was ordained a deacon
at church! We had a nice party to
celebrate after that milestone birthday!
And what better way to end the
month? An arm wrestling match!
You can ask them who won...
