Another thing...

I was thinking about - you really don't know the impact you can have on someone's life. Our Sunday school lesson brought out the point that a seemingly small decision or act can have larger consequences. Now, immediately, you are probably thinking of bad acts or bad decisions - yes, those can have serious repercussions; the impact being felt by entire families or communities. But what I was thinking about was the acts of kindness or the decision to befriend someone with whom you might not normally hang around. While at a funeral on Friday, there was a man who spoke of the departed and how he became friends with him just a few short years ago. They bonded over music and enjoyed playing their guitars and singing together. This man had a genuine respect for his friend, you could feel it. He hadn't known him that long, but there was sadness at the loss this friend's passing brought. I guess the point is, it's never too late to touch the life of someone - for the good. Sure would like to have a friend like that when I die - someone to say I was a good friend, too.

I really appreciated that man too. My grandpa had a lot of problems, and I have heard a lot of negative about him. It was so nice to see someone who loved him and appreciated him for who he was. I often worried about my grandpa being old and all alone. It was nice to know that he had friends.

I was also impressed about all of the nice things that were said about grandpa. What struck me the most was the power of forgiveness. My grandpa had deeply hurt many of the people who were there yet they still came to pay their respects and honor him. It really impacted me.
