Here's the 411..

The turkey's been cooked, carved and consumed.

The lights have been put up. (No, that's not my house - but, dang, aren't those great lights!)

The camper's being prepared.

And this elk better run!!

What do these things have in common, you ask? Well, we had Thanksgiving dinner early (on Saturday). The camper is being aired out and tuned up for the trip to the north starting on Wednesday. And...the reason for all this is the hope that either Dave or Terry will have this big boy in their sights early Friday morning!! There will be much thanks given on Thanksgivin' in the woods for the opportunity to bag the big one! Wish them luck!!!

Oh...the lights...I had Dave put the outside Christmas lights up before he went hunting. Who knew if he'd be too sore to put them up after his big hunt!! (Yes, Kim, it IS also a bonus to beat you this year!)

Thank You

Today is Veteran's Day - here are two men close to me who have honored their country by serving in the most horrific situations. Thank you to my Dad who has earned his eternal rest and Dave, my brother-in-law, who has retired, and to all the men and women currently serving our country.

Heroes
By Jared Jenkins

In war, there are lives risked and lives taken
Men and women giving their best to defend what they love
They defend their country
Their honor
Their people

Some call them soldiers
Others call them heroes

Our veterans have risked their lives for us
They have lived through hell and fought with honor
Many have killed
And regret doing so

For every life, there is a soul
For every soul, there is a life
For those who have died, we show great appreciation and remembrance
For those who live, along with them live the horrific memories of battle
Some, memories of defeat
Some, memories of victory

Our veterans were more than soldiers
They were, and still are heroes

Exercising the 2nd Amendment

With the election around the corner and the future of our constitution as we know it hanging in the balance, we decided to go out and exercise our 2nd amendment rights while we have 'em!! Also, I just felt the need to shoot something! Don't worry - no living creatures were harmed while we were working out the kinks in our trigger fingers! We just like target practice!

We sighted in the guns that are going to be used for bringing down the big elk at the end of the month. Yes, that is Dave's target. He'll need 3 bullets this year - two for sighting in and one for the kill! (If you have any good elk recipes, send them our way!)

We fired off the handguns to make sure we knew how to hit the broadside of a barn.

Notice the lovely accessory Cathi is sporting - yes, those are purple earmuffs. Her wittle ears were ringing from all the shooting!

Nancy was getting the hang of the 22 - don't mess with her now!!

We had a great time and the three Annie Oakleys are ready for anything. We shoot well enough that somebody will know they are getting shot at!!

If you wish to ensure that we can all have days like this, remember to go out and vote!!
